List of all Co F. 48th Illinois Infantry Soldiers Dr. Wm A. Hughey

William Allen Hughey

Father: John R. Hughey
Mother: Mary Crider
Born: March 9, 1836, Crittenden Co., Kentucky
Died: November 20, 1894, Belle Rive, Illinois
Married: Lois Smith, Sept 27, 1859 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois
Scott Lee writes: "William Allen Hughey, my gr gr gr grandfather, was the oldest of the family. I will send you copies of this, but according to WA's bio he moved from Crittenden county, Kentucky to Jefferson county, Illinois to study medicine under his uncle, Christopher Martin Hughey prior to the war. I have never been able to determine when Issac studied but have always suspected that he also
Dr. Wm A. Hughey
studied under his uncle, but after the war. I will have to double check but I believe Issac moved to the Dakota territory in the 1870's where, according to my late great grandmother, he treated an Indian tribe.

In the small pamphlet: A Centennial Family Record of Our Family from 1776 to 1876, by J. H. Hughey we learn that:
Dr. Hughey was a practicing physician in Belle River, Illinois for thirty years.

See his brother Issac N. Hughey in Co. E.

Naman J. Ingersoll

Originally from Orion, Mich. and enlisted 9/12/1861. He was 1st Sgt when company was organized. Family oral tradition says he ended up serving on Gen Sherman's staff during Georgia campaign. I understand that the 48th, Co. F was organized in Marion Co, Ill. (Submitted by D. Ritchie)
